NOTE 辨析 Demonstration or protest?A demonstration can be against sb/sth or in support of sb/sth; a protest is always against sb/sth. A demonstration is usually about a public issue that affects a whole country, region or city; a protest can be about a more private matter, for example by workers against their employers. Either can involve a march, but both may simply consist of a number of people standing together holding up signs or shouting a message. Demonstration can suggest a larger number of people than protest, which can involve a large or small number of people. Protest is a slightly more informal word and is often used by journalists.
march [countable] an organized walk by a large group of people from one place to another, in order to protest about sth, or to express their opinions Thousands of people from all over the country attended the march. march

verb

[intransitive] Hundreds of people marched in support of the teachers' pay claim.
demo ˈdeməʊ; NAmE ˈdemoʊ [countable] (BrE, informal, especially spoken) a demonstration We all went on the demo. Demo is most often used in spoken language, but it also appears in headlines in popular newspapers when journalists want to use the shortest words possible.
